Major achievement: A quick and comprehensive research method to include language, literacy, numeracy and cultural awareness requirements in competency standards.
The project: National industry competency standards are required to adequately include the basic language, literacy, numeracy and cultural awareness skills that underpin them.
We researched national language, literacy and numeracy frameworks and guidelines, then used this information to develop a questionnaire and skills template for the entertainment industry.
We consulted the entertainment industry to find out which skills, at which levels, are required for each standard. We then drafted amendments to the elements, performance criteria and range of variables of selected standards to ensure language, literacy, numeracy and cultural awareness skills were fully covered.
As well as the amended standards, the project also produced an effective methodology for incorporating these skills in future standards.
